Frugal Friday: This One's For My Four-Eyed Friends

Hi Everyone!
So, I was thinking about my blog.  Right now, it has kind of served as my online journal which is great but I would like to sort of switch it up.  Today I am starting Frugal Fridays.  Each week I am going to tell you guys about something I do to save money!  Aaron and I are trying to live off his graduate school stipend until I am done with school which will be a challenge, but I am up for it, because that means less to pay back in student loans.  This will also mean sacrifices will be made, but maybe not as many as you might think.  I am going to try to take this opportunity to get as creative as I can to find ways to save a few dollars here and there. I am not the world's greatest at saving money (I am actually much better at spending it!), but if I can give some new advice or tips to someone then I will consider that a win!

For my first Frugal Friday post, I would love to tell you about Zenni Optical®.  They are an online retailer of prescription glasses.  They have over 3,000 styles of frames for men, women, and children starting at $6.95, and this includes the price of the lenses...yeah you read that right, the lenses are included in the price!  I ordered a pair last year after my uncle told me he had used them for years. I was a little nervous, but I only wear my glasses at night after I take my contacts out so I thought it was worth a shot.  When you go to order, you will start by picking out the frames.  There are plenty of options and when you click on a style, you can see what it looks like on the “model” on the side of the screen.  The style I picked out was $25.95,  then they prompt you to put in your prescription.  They will ask for your “pupillary distance” which is the distance between your pupils so It is important not to get that wrong.  It would be best to have someone help you with that.  I ended up being up-charged $9.00 for having such a strong prescription (I am basically blind without my contacts) and I added the anti-glare coating for $4.95.  After shipping I paid $44.85 for a pair of glasses.  I LOVE them!! I thought they would be low quality for the price, but I have had them for a little over a year now and I have no complaints.  I fall asleep in them all the time and I bend them like crazy and they do not come close to breaking.

If you do not have vision insurance, or if you use your coverage on contacts, then I highly recommend you check out Zenni Optical.  There is no need to break the bank just to get a pair of glasses.  They even carry bifocal lenses and sunglasses!  Maybe you already have a nice pair of glasses and want a bright purple or lime green pair to go with that one outfit? Check them out! I just got an updated prescription and I am planning on ordering another pair this week.  If you end up giving them a try, let me know how you like them!

So you need a new pair of glasses, but do not have the extra money to spend right now? “It’s Fine!” Because you can easily get a stylish, quality pair of prescription strength glasses for under $50.00! Until next time…
